Blocked, Again.
There are two voting rights legislation bills in the Senate which would allow easier access to voting. However, it is unlikely this will be completed this before the midterm elections.
These voter access issues are important but outside of what I’ve been focusing on with iVoteIndie but from what I understand, the current situation is ‘politics 101’ and the proposed changes to the filibuster rules would make it easier for either party to more easily reverse federal policy.
The proposed filibuster rules change, which was just blocked would allow for a "talking filibuster" on the legislation and would have forced lawmakers to come to the Senate floor and speak in opposition. Once those speeches end, the Senate would be able to hold a simple majority vote for final passage.
Big ‘thank you’ to moderate Democrats Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema for blocking the filibuster rules change that would have further divided Republicans and Democrats.
